FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


Q: How many entries may I submit?
A: Unlimited.

Q: What is a public service announcement (PSA)?
A: A non-commercial advertisement typically on radio, website, or television that is deemed “helpful” to the public.

Q: May I use copyrighted photos, music, or video clips?
A: No. We will not accept any PSAs that include copyrighted images, music, or video clips unless you own the copyright to the material presented or have the expressed written permission from the owner.

Q: What if my PSA message doesn't fit any of the topics suggested?
A: No problem; public health can be very broadly defined. You may have thought of a new subject for a PSA that has not been done before. Creativity is what counts. Go for it!

Q: What type of camera should I use to film my PSA?
A: You can use many different types of cameras such as a camcorder, flipcam, digital camera, camera phone, and/or super 8 camera.

Q: Do I need to film my PSA?
A: Not necessarily. It all depends on how you want to express your message. You can film, draw pictures, animate, take photos, etc. Use your creativity!

Q: What type of software do I need to edit my PSA?
A: You can use Window Movie Maker (on most PC’s), iMovie (on most Macs), Final Cut Pro, or any other program you choose.

Q: I am under 19 years of age. May I participate?
A: Yes! We encourage you to participate. However, you must have a signed paper consent form with parent or guardian signature on file here at UAB. Please click here for more information.
